Mechelen joining the first IMRF

The first International Migration Review Forum will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 17-20 May 2022

The IncluCities partner city Mechelen will be part of the Belgian delegation participating at the IMRF. The Mayor of Mechelen Alexander Vandersmissen and Corinne Huybers will represent the voice of European local and regional governments and will contribute to the discussions about the importance of medium-sized cities and smaller municipalities, mentoring programmes between cities and funding opportunities for better migration governance at the local level.

Background

The quadrennial International Migration Review Forum (17-20 May 2022) will be hosted by the President of the UN General Assembly. It consists of four interactive multi-stakeholder round tables, a policy dialogue, and a plenary. It will result in an intergovernmentally agreed on Progress Declaration. An informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing, hosted by the PGA, will take place on the day immediately preceding the Forum (16 May).

In the General Assembly resolution, Member States agreed to review the progress made at the local, national, regional and global levels in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the framework of the United Nations through a State-led approach and with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
